Yesterday was a whirlwind of activity for Major League Baseball and the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers traded for Seattle pitcher Doug Fister and right-handed reliever David Pauley.
They gave up Casper Wells, pitcher Charlie Furbush, prospect Francisco Martinez, and a player to be named later — on or before August 20.
Fister has a 3-12 record with a 3.33 ERA. The record is deceptive. He has the lowest run support among major league pitchers (1.97 runs per game). Now it is up to the Tigers to provide some runs when he is on the mound and help him win some games.
David Pauley is a good reliever with a 5-4 record and a 2.15 ERA in 39 appearances.
Both should be with the team on Tuesday. Fister will get his first start as a Tiger on Wednesday against the Texas Rangers.
Jacob Turner had a spot start yesterday afternoon against the Angels. He took the loss in his first major league appearance. He has been sent to Triple-A Toledo. His contract being optioned had nothing to do with his start. Before the game it had been made clear that is what would happen regardless of his performance during the game.
